Our journey to Mexico City began with a flight from Prague via Paris. After checking in at the airport, we decided to strengthen our team cohesion and enjoyed one last chance to enjoy a real Czech beer. This idea was much appreciated and the wait for the flight was much more pleasant. A 12-hour flight to Mexico City followed, which was survivable thanks to the wide selection of movies and music on board. The flight took the shortest possible route via England, Greenland and North America to Mexico.

Landing in Mexico City

Upon arrival in Mexico City, we were overwhelmed by the size of this city of over 27 million people. The view of this huge metropolis from the plane was an unforgettable experience. Immediately after landing, we went to the Coyoacán district, which charmed us with its lively atmosphere and many small shops offering a variety of goods.

Acclimatisation and visit to Teotihuacán

Our first day was spent acclimatising and fighting jet lag. We went on a trip to the pyramids of Teotihuacán, which amazed us with their monumental size. The walk around these ancient structures and the views they offered were fascinating.

Cultural and gastronomic experiences

During our stay in Mexico City, we had the opportunity to experience the local culture and cuisine. The Mexican food captivated us with its spiciness and the wide variety of bean dishes combined with delicious meats. We were most impressed by the egg tortillas we enjoyed for breakfast. In addition, we sampled the excellent steaks and guacamole, which were absolutely fabulous. Tasting mezcal and tequila while exploring the local markets full of different foods was also an unforgettable experience.
An interesting fact was watching the locals buying drinking water in PET bottles on a daily basis, which at 5 CZK/litre can be a considerable expense for some.

Work achievements

We spent a full week at the paper products plant testing the innovative TOPCORE adhesives. Our tests yielded positive results, showing that our adhesives performed on average 20% better on local papers. We also developed a new solution combining local dextrin with our BLENDECO additives, which opened up new possibilities for our products.

Homecoming

On the flight back, we had some tense moments when we didn’t have seats on the ticket for a local flight and had to wait to see if all the passengers would show up for check-in. Fortunately, everything worked out and we were able to return home with the delay. Now another container is heading across the ocean to our Mexican customer.

Trip summary

Our trip to Mexico was not only successful in terms of work, but also culturally and gastronomically enriching. This mix of work and personal experiences left us with unforgettable memories and new ideas for the further development of our products.
If you are planning a similar trip, we recommend visiting Teotihuacán and exploring the local cuisine, which is sure to impress you with its variety and flavours. Don’t forget to try the traditional Mexican drinks such as mezcal and tequila, which are inherent to Mexico.
